One to Protect is the third part of the One to Hold-series by Tia Louise and a continuation of Derek and Melissa's story. It had everything I've come to expect from this author; romance, suspense, humor, a bit of action and lots of sexy times! Once I started reading it, I could not put it down and I ended up finishing it in only a couple of hours. If you've liked the previous books in this series, this one's an absolute must read!

The story picks up a few months are the end of the first book. Melissa is pregnant with their baby and things seemed to have settled down with her ex-husband Sloan. Or at least, that's what she assumes. Derek and Melissa's relationship is still as strong as ever but Derek seems more and more distracted lately and Melissa fears that means her ex might be lurking around again to cause trouble. Compared to the first book, Melissa has become much more self-assured, independent and at peace with herself and her relationship and I liked the fact that's she's grown so much thanks to the security Derek and her new life provided her.

Derek is the perfect example of the protective alpha male with a tough guy exterior but a sweet, caring heart. He's fierce, loyal to a fault and willing to do whatever it takes to keep his family safe. He's the ultimate protecter and when he finds out Sloan is still a threat to Mel's safety, he sets out to plan his demise, together with his partner Patrick. But what if the legal ways of getting rid of Sloan aren't enough? How far is he willing to go to make sure Melissa and their baby are forever safe?

With a few twists and turns, this story managed to keep me on the edge of my toes right until the very end. It was so much fun catching up with Derek and Melissa, as well as the fantastic side characters Patrick and Elaine. I would highly recommend this series for anyone looking for a thrilling, sexy read with not too much angst and no cliffhanger. Already looking forward to the next part in this series!
