INTERVIEW

1 Tell us a little bit about your new books Corrupt and Misconduct

where I was like Corrupt centers around a young woman and four men who have a history of one eventful night together a few years ago (Devil's Night) where they wreaked a little havoc. The events of that night led to the men's arrest, which you'll get to see. After a few years, though, they're all out of jail, and they come after her with the help of Michael, the only one not to be arrested. We get to see all the things they do to push her and how she responds.

Misconduct centers around a young teacher, fresh out of college, who meets a very handsome and powerful man, who happens to be the single father of one of her students. She has a troubled past, and he is very much in the public eye,

so they're attraction to each other is somewhat forbidden. Their banter was one of my most favorite things to write. Ever.

2 Are the events in your books based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
A bit of both, actually. There's always scenes in every book that are inspired by events in my life or someone I know. Have I fallen for my bully or my stepbrother or a student's parent? No. But the lessons in every book--the things
I want to say and have readers come out of it with--are very real.

3 What books have influenced your life the most?
I love Tijan, Stylo Fantome, B.B. Reid for inspiration on pushing the envelope. I love Beca Fitzpatrick, Lauren Kate, Kelly Creagh, and Abbi Glines and their YA, because it shows that great romance = great chemistry, not great sex.

I love sex in books, and I like having it n my books, but it's also important to stretch out the foreplay. THAT'S what keeps me reading.

And also, Frankenstein. That's my favorite book.

4 What are your current projects?
I'm not really sure. I have several ideas on my plate. Corrupt has plenty of room to expand with side characters, the kids from the Fall Away series are starting to talk to me, and I have a dark, sexy high school story I'd like to
write, but I need to think about it. I've been so pre-occupied with four releases this year that I haven't had much time to dream. I'm going to enjoy the holidays and let my brain quiet down, so I can start fantasizing again. I have to think about what I want
to say next.
5 If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

I would change something in every book. That goes without saying. This is why "think time" is so important to writers and why I don't rush my releases. Sometimes great ideas occur to you AFTER you've hit publish, and then it's too late to add that great scene. I take my time and let the story unfold. But yes, no matter what, there's always something where I was like "Dammit, I should've put that in!"

6 What was the hardest part of writing your book?

Just writing, in general. Making sure all the emotion are felt, so the readers connect. It's exhausting. I love to dream, and I love that I WROTE, but actually sitting down to write is very frustrating.

7 Do you have a favorite character out of all the books you’ve written? If so what is it about this character you love the most?

I connected with K.C. the most in Falling Away, and I loved writing Madoc from the Fall Away series. He's light and funny, and he's always a welcome change, because most of my characters are angsty and intense, so he's a relief.

8 How can readers discover more about you and you work?

Probably Pinterest. I have boards for all of my books. https://www.pinterest.com/penelopedouglas/
And all of my work is here on Amazon, as well as other retailers: http://amzn.to/1SKsjwt
