Title: Toxic
Author:
Meghan QuinnGenre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Synopsis:
His life consists of his best friend, Jack Daniels, his favorite drug and women who give him what he wants and leave. Rook Tyler lives for performing at night and wasting the rest of his days washing away the pain from his childhood so he doesn’t have to feel anything...ever. The only people he trusts are his band mates from Shattered Souls and he wants to keep it that way. His life was completely under control and simple until he heard the voice of Maisy Madison filter through The Tavern speakers.
Growing up in the foster care system with her two other band mates from Twisted Perfection, Maisy finds herself doing pretty much anything to get her and her band noticed but nothing seems to be working.  One lucky night, Shattered Souls, the most popular band in the country, decides to show up at their little concert and luckily signs them on the spot and books them for their tour but the arena venues and massive amount of fans isn’t what has Maisy shaking in her heels.  It’s the deep baritone voice of Rook Tyler that haunted her dreams for years that has her wondering if she can actually go through with the tour.
The force is almost too strong.  He can feel her everywhere he goes and no matter how much he tries to resist her, he finds himself gravitating towards Maisy, wanting to hold her, kiss her and fuck her. He knows he shouldn’t get involved.  He knows no matter what, he will end up hurting her but he can’t help it, his soul is connected to hers and the pull is too strong for him to resist.
Rook warned her time and time again but she didn’t listen, she didn’t want to listen. She needed him and she didn’t care that she knew deep down in her heart that their relationship was going to end in disaster. She didn’t care that their jealousies, stubbornness and baggage were getting in the way of their relationship. She didn’t care that they constantly hurt each other and that no matter what they did, their love was toxic.
Toxic, book one of The Addiction Series, tells the story of Rook and Maisy’s relationship, how it develops into an undeniable love and then crumbles apart every chance it gets.  Follow their twisted relationship as they fight off lies, temptations, addictions, users and try to overcome the toxic love they share.

Excerpt

“What if I want to take the risk? What if I want you too?”
Rook looked down at her and she could feel his hot breathe on her skin which caused goose bumps to ripple across her body.
“You’d be a fool to want that. I’m not lying when I say I will destroy you. What’s flowing between us is toxic. We can’t get enough of it but it will slowly kill us. I know I shouldn’t expose you to such a thing but I’m too damn selfish to stop myself. I want you, Maisy. I need you and to hell if I’m going to put your needs in front of mine.”
With that he crushed his lips against hers and set every nerve ending in her body on fire. She knew he was right, what they had was toxic but she couldn’t stop herself. She felt the same way when it came to Rook Tyler. She needed him, her soul begged for him even though she knew in the end she would die from heartache.

INTERVIEW

1. What inspired you to write Toxic?
I was in Denver at the Bluebird to watch Boyce Avenue play. The Bluebird is one of those hole in the wall kind of theaters that’s so hipster but beyond cool where seats are nowhere to be found and you are practically swapping sweat with the stranger next to you, just trying to catch a glimpse of the stage.
Boyce Avenue was singing “Fast Car”, a Tracy Chapman cover, when it hit me like Miley Cyrus’ naked body on a wrecking ball. I pulled out my phone, which lit up the area around me but I didn't care, I quickly typed out my idea in the note pad app.  This is exactly what I wrote, it’s still in my phone: (don’t mind the lack of punctuation and run on sentences)
“Toxic relationship with lead singers they can’t be with each other because they are ruining each other but they can’t be without each other it’s too hard Rook has abusive father always hitting him up for cash doing drugs got Rook into them”
Clearly the book was developed after that, but that was the beginning of Toxic…”Fast Car”, kind of fitting.

2. Who is your favorite character from your book and why?
Most likely a lot of people will disagree with me but my favorite character is Rook. He is such a complex man with a horrible past that cuts at my heart. Most of the time he doesn't make the right decisions because he doesn't know any better but he tries. He tries to save the people around him from experiencing the amount of pain he grew up with but goes about it in the wrong way. He has the best of intentions but always ends up hurting the ones he loves.
Rook was an interesting character to write. It was hard to make him likable since he's kind of an asshole that takes what he wants with no regrets but deep down there is a soft side, a side of him that only Maisy gets to see and that's the side I tried to get the readers to fall in love with. The side that makes you want to curl up on top of a tour bus and watch the stars go by as he sings quietly into your ear. That's the real Rook, that's the Rook that will hopefully carry on through the series.

3. What genre of books do you like to read?
I love, love, love Contemporary Romance. I like to consider myself a classy lady with a bit of a dirty side. When I don't have to be on my best behavior, I have the mouth of a sailor, the mind of a horny pre-pubescent teenager and the drama of a trashy television show full of bitches cutting throats for their men. That's what I like to read. I like lots of angst, lots of drama, I enjoy a good love triangle and I love a cliff hanger that will make me throw my kindle at the wall, bury my head in my pillow and scream obscenities until my voice is hoarse.

4. What are your -book- plans for the future?
There are so many plans. Toxic is book one in the Addiction Series so there will be a lot more to come from the two bands. The second book will be called Fame and will continue the story of the two bands where there will be the downfall of one character (and it's not Rook). There will be some amazing love triangles, someone will fall in love and get massively broken and a relationship will possibly find its HEA. This will come in the fall 2014.
What I am currently most excited about and what has been eating me alive lately with characters talking to me in my head (crazy, I know) is Becoming a Jett Girl. This will be a three book series.  I woke up one morning with this idea and I haven't been able to get it out of my head. The book will take place in fabulous New Orleans on sinful Bourbon Street and in the beautiful Garden District. Think high class gentlemen's club where lap dances are a fine art and it's not only a privilege but a process to become a Jett Girl. Kinky do you ask? Yes! Jett is a domineering man who has multiple Jett Girl's at his disposal but one of them just might ruin him for life. I am looking for a spring time release.

For those of you who are addicted to the Hot-Lanta series and want to find out what's going to happen with Molly Meyers then you are in for a treat, book three will be released in the summer. It will focus on Molly's life as well as the reveal of a baby daddy, a relationship will be tested and a new couple will be introduced. If you read Fair Catch from the Love and Sports Series then you will know Parker and Margo. Their story will carry over to the Hot-Lanata series...lots of drama!!
The second book in the Love and Sports series, Double Coverage, is going to be released in the Spring as well. Fair Catch was all about Jake and Lexi but Double Coverage will focus on Mason and the lovely little love triangle almost square that he gets himself into. I like to think Fair Catch was a true love story of finding your way after college and defining yourself while also defining a relationship. It was tame in the drama department but don't expect that from Double Coverage. The intensity is picked up and the characters do things that will make you want to punch a hole in the wall like Andy from The Office when he can't find his cell phone.
Lastly...whew long answer I know. Beers, Lies and Alibis, the second book in the Warbler's Point series will be released March 17th. This series is near and dear to my heart because it's about an Irish-Catholic family that gets on each other’s nerves and butts in each other’s business when it's not wanted. There are a lot of fist fights, drinking beer and drama. The second book revolves around a motive to take down the O'Learys in the small town of Warblers Point that will keep you on the edge of your seat to see what's going to happen next.
Those are all the future plans for now but I know there will be more to come.
