Nora is the 18 years old daughter of one the most influential families in Dallas. For her overbearing mother appearance is everything, and Nora is expected to be perfect. Behind closed doors the family is far from perfect, and this has left Nora with many scars.
Leo, 25 years old guardian of his teenage brother, has lost his parents at a young age. The loss of his parents has left him afraid to love and attach himself to others.
When they meet, in an exceptionally surprising opening chapter, I already knew this book would touch my heart.
A story about how we should not judge others by their appearance.
A story about how we all fall down and push ourselves to climb back up.
A story about how scary change can be.
A story about pushing through and finding strength in the most unlikely places and the most unlikely people.
A story about true friendship.
A story about soulmates.
The storyline is affecting, enticing, and deliciously heartbreaking. Told in alternating point of views by Nora and Leo, slowly you unravel the pieces of Nora's life, and why she's acting out. I felt her pain and despair. She isn't a poor little rich girl. She has been tainted by her family. She's in search of acceptance and desperately wants to be herself instead of a picture perfect version her family forced upon her. After everything she has been through in her young life, I still found her admirably strong. Her behaviour is understandable.
Leo, who is at first confused by Nora, becomes enthralled by Nora's odd behaviour. A lovely young man who can't let people around him destroy themselves. He feels the need to help and guide her. In his own special way he gives her something new to focus on. Leo stole my heart from the first chapter. His brother Sebastian, Nora's friend Mila, Teddy, every character adds heartfelt moments to this beautiful, intense, and enticing love story.
I enjoyed their banter. I loved their sexual chemistry. I adored the push and pull throughout the storyline. The author has a captivating writing style which made me read this book in one night. She starts every chapter with a stunning quote from Nora or Leo, I almost highlighted every chapter quote.
This book can be read as a stand-alone novel. There is an ending.
We think we're invincible, but we're not. One way or another, we're all placed six feet under.
