Bravery, courage, fear and love in a time of war.
Despite their differences, sisters Viann and Isabelle have always been close. Younger, bolder Isabelle lives in Paris while Viann is content with life in the French countryside with her husband Antoine and their daughter. But when the Second World War strikes, Antoine is sent off to fight and Viann finds herself isolated so Isabelle is sent by their father to help her.
As the war progresses, the sisters' relationship and strength is tested. With life changing in unbelievably horrific ways, Viann and Isabelle will find themselves facing frightening situations and responding in ways they never thought possible as bravery and resistance take different forms in each of their actions.
Vivid and exquisite in its illumination of a time and place that was filled with atrocities, but also humanity and strength, Kristin Hannah's novel will provoke thought and discussion that will have readers talking long after they finish reading.
Honestly I don't know how to start my review about this one.Maybe first of all I should say that this book is one of them that you should definitely read!!It's like nothing you have read and what is happening in this story it's so emotional and intense.Seriously I couldn't stop myself from crying all the time.
I loved all the characters but Isabelle is my favorite!!I liked her so much! She is strong, independent and she doesn't afraid to say her opinion!Vianne was ok for me at the beginning but I like her more in the half of the book! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I want more romance..Yes I know the story is about a tragedy but even though there are more important things to care I would like a little happiness..
Overall it was an amazing, compelling story with captivating characters that will touch your hearts like it did with mine! Now I can totally why everybody was talking about this one!
