Is that how a little girl sits?

No, Daddy.

How should a little girl sit?
Shoulders back and tummy in.

And how should a little girl look?
Always neat and pretty
That’s my girl.

Twenty-four-year-old Alexa Kennedy is beautiful, sharp as a whip, and at the top of her medical school class. She’s also been waging a war in her head for as long as she can remember. Depression. Hatred. Self-loathing. These feelings feed the pain inside her, fueling her quest for a perfection that she can never achieve.
In one life-changing moment, Dex Blakewell crashes into her world. Dex is funny, gorgeous, and irresistible. He chases away the darkness and fills her with light and laughter. An unusual friendship blossoms, making no demands or expectations.
Friendship turns into an unexpected love and a delicious passion. Alexa realizes that the only thing tethering her to sanity is their connection. But even Dex’s strength can’t keep her demons at bay forever. When life overwhelms, the outside world starts to mirror her inner turmoil. And when Dex discovers she’s been keeping horrible secrets, will she finally shatter or find a way through the darkness? Will the promise of love be enough to save her from self-destruction?

4 STARS

"So many secrets. Mine. Yours. We try to protect ourselves from the very people who only want to save us.”

What a great story! It was sweet, emotional, intense and hot!! I had so many feelings while I was reading this book.. there were moments where I was laughing and others that I was ready to cry. The characters are so lovable and realistic and the story touches some serious issues.

Alexa is a medical student who when she is on her way to the hospital has a car accident involving a man she thinks is a jerk. Due to an emergency she must go but still they must meet again because of the car accident. Soon these two will meet again and they become friends... But this isn't enough because the chemistry between them is so intense that they cannot deny that they feel more than being only friends..

Alexa is vulnerable, smart, sweet and funny. While you read more you learn about her childhood. Dex has his own problems to deal with.He is funny, super hot and protective. The characters are not perfect, they have issues and they find in each other what they need to heel.I loved their connection starting first as friends!

Hi Lisa, thank you for agreeing to do this interview.

Tell us a little about yourself and your background?
I’m married with three young kids and work full time. I’ve been a nurse for over 20 years and absolutely LOVE it. Most of my books have a medical component.
Which writers inspire you? Alessandra Torre. Mary Balough. Kresley Cole. Love the magic they create with words.
Could you give us an insight into your main character on Keeping Secrets.
Wow…hmmm…I think that there is a little bit of every woman in Alexa, her fears, her dreams, her anxieties, her drive and passion. I wanted her to be real without the story being too depressing, but I wanted it realistic. There was a lot of interest in this story, but I was asked to make too many changes that I couldn’t do without compromising the integrity of the novel. I couldn’t make this story fluffy or conventional because there’s nothing fluffy about mental illness. Alexa suffers the way someone who suffers with these mental illnesses suffer. I’m happy with the way it turned out.
Dex is seriously my dream man…lol. He’s hot, hung, a dynamo in bed, and infinitely patient. But he is damaged. Everyone he’s every loved has left him. He’s afraid to give his heart to someone.
What are you working on at the moment?

I’m working on a lighter romance, one with lots of twists and turns.
Where do your ideas come from? I always have a story in my head…I sometimes feel like I’m living in two different worlds..,lol. I also think about what I’d like to read.
What is the hardest thing about writing? Finding the time to do it. Working full time and having three children doesn’t leave much time for writing.
Who are your favourite author/s? Mary Balough, Lisa Kleypas, Alessandra Torre, Marsha Canham
What is your favourite quote? OMG..I have so many! The kind of love that keeps you from falling—or pushes you right off the edge.
What is your favourite book and why? I don’t have one favorite. But if I had to pick it would be To Kill a Mockingbird, or Of Mice and Men, or Macbeth. I just love the stories and the symbolisms.

Thank you very much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to take part in this interview!
