Wednesday, March 02, 2016

In the first in a dazzling new series, New York Times bestselling author Lorraine Heath introduces the Hellions of Havisham—three charismatic rogues destined to lose their hearts...
After six unsuccessful Seasons, Miss Minerva Dodger chooses spinsterhood over fortune-hungry suitors. But thanks to the Nightingale Club, she can at least enjoy one night of pleasure. At that notorious establishment, ladies don masks before choosing a lover. The sinfully handsome Duke of Ashebury is more than willing to satisfy the secretive lady's desires—and draws Minerva into an exquisite, increasingly intimate affair.
A man of remarkable talents, Ashe soon deduces that his bedmate is the unconventional Miss Dodger. Intrigued by her wit and daring, he sets out to woo her in earnest. Yet Minerva refuses to trust him. How to court a woman he has already thoroughly seduced? And how to prove that the passion unleashed in darkness is only the beginning of a lifetime's pleasure?

5 STARS!!!

Don't ask me how I landed up reading a historical romance lol! Although I think it may have had something to do with the dreaded book slump that always catches me unawares. This book was exactly what I needed, a strong heroine who wasn't beautiful in the classic sense (and she really was a normal looking gal not astoundingly beautiful with no idea.) It was really refreshing to read about a heroine who didn't meet society's expectations yet didn't feel bad about it.

Miss Minerva Dodger is daughter to the richest and most formidable man in London but don't worry it hasn't gone to her head. With a hefty dowry and a face that isn't what society deems worthy of a mans attention, Minerva has still managed to maintain her independence and absolute disregard for anyone who thinks her unworthy. She's accepted the fact that she will probably remain unwed for the rest of her life. But she would like to feel the pleasure only a man can bring her. So she visits the infamous club called the Nightingale where the ladies of London have the opportunity to share their deepest desires in anonymity. Which is where she meets the dashing and maybe a bit rakish Duke of Ashebury.

I loved Ashe, he'd never paid any attention to Minerva but not because of his ego or that he thought she was ugly but simply because of the attentions of so many young women who wanted to snag his attention. The sparks fly as soon as they meet, Ashe only knew Minerva as Lady V when they first meet and he is immediately intrigued. The characters in this book were far from generic or cookie cutter perfect like so many books I've read but the author still maintained a wildly romantic story. Minerva's looks and most importantly her dowry played a huge part in this book but I never got tired of it. She never cowered when people would insult her, she stood up for herself and even held back at times.

I loved how Ashe proved his love for Minerva in the end. One of the relationships I really appreciated in this book was Minerva's relationship with her father. He was so protective, he never judged her, never pushed her to get married, which was so refreshing. Father figures aren't always like this in the books I've read. Ashe's camaraderie with the men he grew up with was pretty awesome, they're like brothers and the author laid a pretty good foundation for the books following this one in the series. There was a hint of a very juicy secret concerning the twins in this book (I have a feeling that there are going to be a lot of feels in their book).

All in all I highly recommend this book. Although I was expecting a lot more steam I wasn't disappointed at all, the sexual tension was more than enough. I can't wait for Edward's book!
